Ten years ago, at my mother's funeral, I stood at the church pulpit and shared six simple lessons. Not just any old six lessons, but six lifelong lessons that my mother had instilled upon us kids. I carry a copy of them with me everyday. However, sometimes simply carrying them is not enough. Sometimes I just need to take them out, brush them off, and READ them. So, in honor of Mother's Day, I thought I would share them once again. I hope they enlighten you as they did me, and possibly create a fire within you that will encourage you to make this world a better place. So here goes-
#1) Do your best. Always do your best - but remember - to be human is to be imperfect.
#2) Stand up for what you believe in - but first listen with an open heart.
#3) Be fair. Do not judge others, for many times things are different than they appear.
#4) Smile, smile, smile - and keep on smiling.
#5) Forgive - simply forgive.
#6) And love - love and be loved for no one knows what tomorrow holds.
Mom, I must confess. I try, but I am so human. And like you said, that makes me so imperfect. Yep! That's me - Miss Imperfection! Oh how I need your loving nudge. I know that nudge would remind me of the things that really matter. I feel your presence everyday. Thank you for being with me during the days of bliss and the days of anguish. I miss you, Mom! Happy Mother's Day!
